The purpose of a survey is to support informed management decisions. Trees may be retained with suitable care, and some need no immediate work. Where a problem is identified, recommendations should account for its significance and the people or property that could be affected. Removal may be appropriate in some cases, but a survey should not be treated as an automatic instruction to fell trees.

Does removing a commercial tree include removing the stump?
After felling, a stump can remain at or near ground level unless additional work has been agreed. Whether it needs removal depends on the next use of the area, such as planting, landscaping or construction. Stump grinding does not automatically remove every root. Agree the required depth, handling of grindings and any reinstatement before the work starts.
